Custom Knife Store Stevens Pass/Levenworth
Traveling to Leavenworth through Stevens Pass on Hwy 2 is like driving back in time. One can see the glimpses of what it was like to be one of the first trappers or settlers in the area. The lush green farmland outside of Monroe turns into a deep forest with moss hanging from limbs as you come into Goldbar. A stop in Index for to stretch ones legs often overwhelms with the view of Mt. Index jetting up to the sky.
On a recent trip over to our listing on Sunland Drive outside of Stevens Pass we met a remarkable artist in the most unsuspecting place. Driving up Highway 2, we passed an old red roadside building with a huge sign that read “Knife Sale.” Not being able to resist, we doubled back to check it out. As we approached the porch we noticed another sign reading “Dogs Welcomes/Kids on a Leash”. We let Lucy and Rosie (our dogs) off their leashes and stepped inside.
A gentleman stood behind a cramped counter filled with every type of knife imaginable. He was chatting amiably with a young man about a new arrival to the area who was, apparently, living in a RV with a pure bred wolf and needed a place to stay for the summer. We wandered the store and marveled at the shelves lined with stunning hand carved knives both for hunters and collectors. We asked the owner if it was ok to take some photographs and he not only agreed but also offered to pose with one of his favorite works - a hand-carved elk horn handled knife.
This quirky roadside attraction is definitely worth the stop, even if you are not in need of a bowie knife. The owner was very generous to show of his fine collection of knives and let us play with his sweet German Shepard, Ruger.
